Latin music program planned at library
Olga Salvatore and Greg Shirley will perform Latin music including mariachi, Cuban and bossa nova from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kailua-Kona Public Library.
The combination of vocals and acoustic guitar will create a mood for beautiful ballads and an English translation will be given for each song.

Aloha Krav Maga organizes cleanup
Aloha Krav Maga’s monthly community outreach event will be a litter pickup from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Participants should meet at 10 a.m. at the Aloha Krav Maga studio in Kona Marketplace on Alii Drive. Any nonmember who attends this event will earn one week of free classes. Members are encouraged to wear their Aloha Krav Maga T-shirts, which will also be on sale that day for $15.
Makaeo path cleanup planned for Saturday
The Friends for Fitness monthly community cleanup at Old Kona Airport Park’s Makaeo Walking/Jogging Path is slated from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers should meet at the entrance near the water fountain. Garden tools, light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
Harrison offers
guided meditation
Gavin Harrison will offer two opportunities for guided meditation.
A walking meditation will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Iole, the historic Bond homestead in Kapaau. The nonstrenuous walk is held on the first Saturday of the month rain or shine. There is no charge, but a donation of $10 to $15 is suggested. For more information, email info@iolehawaii.com or call the Iole office at 889-5151.
Harrison will also offer a sitting and walking meditation from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Waimea Events Salon, 66-1664 Waiaka St. Guidance is offered and meditators of all levels are welcome. Participants should bring a meditation cushion, chairs are available. This event is held on the first Sunday of each month, and is free, though donations are accepted.

Parker School holds Giant Pumpkin Contest
The fifth annual Big Island Giant Pumpkin Contest will be held Saturday at Waimea Town Market at Parker School in Waimea.
Registration is at 9 a.m., weigh-ins begin at 10. Award ribbons will be given in four categories: heaviest, most beautiful, most unusual and, for junior gardeners and school gardens, best record keeping/photo log. A $100 cash prize will be awarded for the heaviest pumpkin.
Hawaii 4-H Junior Master Gardner Program and Hawaii Island School Garden Network partnered with Waimea’s Kekela Farms to grow and distribute 500 pumpkin starts around the island last spring.
